Audi Ur Quattro. Renault R5. MG Metro 6R4. They are motor racing icons and rally racing legends. Even more storied brands like Porsche and Ferrari have tried their hands at rallying, with varying degrees of success. Even so, none of these of these Group B heroes evoke the same kind of knowing nods of approval as Lancia. The real question, then, isn’t which car maker built the greatest Group B racers of all. The question is: which Lancia was best, the 037 or the S4?
Well- this video, made by the very lucky guys at Girard & Co., doesn’t answer that. What it does do is line up a classic, ex-works Lancia Delta S4 alongside a Beta Montecarlo-based 037 and drag race them on an airstrip. And, you know, that’s still pretty rad!
Check out the video, below, then let us know what you think of Lancia’s Group B rally icons in the comments section at the bottom of the page. For what it’s worth, I’m an 037 guy, all the way– even if the lack of AWD hurts its ability to come off the line lie the S4. How about you?
